RESPECT

*Please refer to post below regarding Shore Fx*
RESPECT: Responding with words and actions that show others they are important.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Respecting your child
* Be honest. If you do something wrong, admit it and apologize.
* Be positive. Don't embarrass, insult or make fun of your child. Compliment him.
* Be trusting. Let your child make choices and take responsibility.
* Be fair. Listen to your child's side of the story before reaching a conclusion.
* Be polite. Use "please" and "thank you." Knock before entering your child's room.
* Be reliable. Keep promises. Show your child that you mean what you say.
*
Be a good listener. Give your child your full attention.

Modeling good behavior
~
Obey laws. Follow rules.
~ Be caring. Show concern for people, animals and the environment.
~ Avoid poor role models. When you see examples of disrespect, discuss them.

More respect tactics
>
Teach children to respect themselves. We must respect ourselves, to respect others
> When you set rules at home, explain to your child why the rule is important
> Your opinion means a lot. Believe they can succeed. Build their independence. Give them responsibilities.
> Help them set and achieve goals.
> Encourage honesty.
> Most importantly, show love! Say “I love you" often, and give plenty of hugs and kisses. If your child makes a mistake, remind them that they are still loved.
> Teach your children how to talk with (not to) people. Ask how someone’s day is going, compliment a person, be concerned about something a person is experiencing.
> Expose your child to different things. Help them develop interest in and acceptance of different races/cultures.
> Demonstrate respect. Do something kind. Make it a goal for you and your children to do something kind for someone at least once a month. Give your children choices and help them decide what they want to do.
> Teach your child to say no to anything that affects their development physically, socially, and psychologically.

HOW TO BE RESPECTFUL
* Treat other people the way you want to be treated.
* Be courteous and polite.
* Don't insult people or make fun of them (no bullying).
* Be quiet and listen when someone else is talking.
* Do what you are asked to do – the first time.
* Take turns and share.
* Always say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
* Don't judge people before you get to know them.
